Parrett was proud to be a part of the creation of the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center at Pocantico (DR Center) which opened in the fall of 2022. This restoration project is a pinnacle of sustainable design and operation, earning LEED Platinum certification, a green GOOD DESIGN sustainability Award for Green architecture, and the ASCE Lower Husdon Valley Branch Empire State Award.
The DR Center was designed by FXCollaborative Architects through an adaptive reuse of the 1908 Beaux-Arts style Orangerie located on the former Rockefeller estate in Tarrytown, NY. The DR Center today is now an oasis for artists and the community to come together to develop, present, and experience new works of performing, literary, and visual art. The center’s open 200 ft interior features a performance space, an art gallery, and an artist studio. Sliding glass doors provide a view that serves to preserve the historic appearance of the building. Sustainable build factors included all-electric MEP systems, 100% LED lighting, enhanced air filtrations, solar arrays, and rain gardens that capture 100% of the site run-off.
Parrett contributed to the sustainable goals of the project by provided Forest Stewardship Council certified window units in mahogany construction. These 90 windows with SDL (simulated divided lite) grilles featured a Low E glass makeup with warm edge spacer for improved thermal performance. Parrett factory-painted the windows to ensure a high-performance paint coating that will be long-lasting in the field. Stationary sash set rectangle and radius top windows which were provided as well as operable crankout awnings at sizes of approximately 4’ x 5’. Parrett created several custom window profiles to match the desired design of the windows and also included lineal wood accessories to facilitate jobsite window mulling and installation.
